The Project

Vredehout is a new-build project featuring 68 sustainable and comfortable apartments, located on the Oude Haagweg in The Hague. The homes are available in both the regulated-, and unregulated rental sector and are designed with a focus on quality, space, and energy-efficient living.

Whether you're a starter, a young family, or simply looking for a modern and pleasant place to live in the city, Vredehout offers a home that fits your lifestyle, now and in the future. The apartments vary in size and all include a private balcony, an external storage unit in the basement, and access to a shared bicycle parking facility. Completion is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027.

Peaceful living, centrally located

Vredehout is situated in the Houtwijk neighborhood, part of the Loosduinen district, a green and tranquil area with all amenities close by. What makes this location special is the ideal balance between peace and accessibility. From your doorstep, you can cycle to The Hague’s city centre in just 15 minutes, or head the other way to reach the beach at Kijkduin. Nature areas such as Madestein and Landgoed Ockenburgh are also nearby. Supermarkets, schools, public transport, and sports facilities are all well within reach.

The history of Vredehout

Historical ground

Vredehout is located in Houtwijk, part of the former Loosduinen. It was once an independent town. In the 17th century, this area belonged to Johan van Oldenbarnevelt’s country estate, Westcamp. The historic character of the surroundings can still be felt today.

Industry and employment

In 1909, the Vredestein factory opened here and remained a major employer in the region for many years. The factory closed in 1976, and the last remnants were removed in 1982. The name Vredehout refers to this history: a combination of Vredestein and Houtwijk.

From working to living

After the factory closed, health insurer Azivo moved onto the site. The building became known as the Azivo building and was in use until 2011. Now, the location is being transformed into a residential area: modern, peaceful, and rich in history.
