Vredehout benefits from a central location on the Oude Haagweg, making the neighborhood easily accessible by both car and public transportation. A tram line runs right past the project and offers a quick connection to various parts of The Hague and surrounding municipalities.
By bike, you can reach the center of The Hague in about 15 minutes. Kijkduin Beach is just an 8-minute drive away. This means a walk along the sea or a visit to one of the charming beach pavilions is always within easy reach.
Destinations outside The Hague are also easily accessible from Vredehout. Via the nearby highways, you can reach the A4 in about 15 minutes, from where you can easily continue on to various cities. Do you prefer to travel by public transportation? A tram stop is less than a three-minute walk away, taking you to The Hague Central Station in about twenty minutes. The station is also easily accessible by bike; you can reach The Hague Central Station in about thirty minutes. From there, you can easily continue your journey to various cities throughout the country.
The History of Vredehout
Historic Grounds
Vredehout is located in the Houtwijk neighborhood of the former town of Loosduinen, which was once an independent city. As early as the 17th century, this site was part of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt’s Westcamp country estate. The area’s historic atmosphere is still very much alive today.
Industry and Employment
The Vredestein factory opened here in 1909 and was a major employer in the region for many years. The factory closed in 1976, and the last remnants were removed in 1982. The name Vredehout refers to this history: a combination of Vredestein and Houtwijk.
From Work to Home
After the factory closed, health insurance provider Azivo set up operations on the site. The building was known as the Azivo building and was in use until 2011. Now, the site is being transformed into a residential community: modern, peaceful, and steeped in history.
All amenities nearby
You’ll never have to travel far for your daily groceries. There’s a neighborhood supermarket within walking distance. Several larger supermarkets are just a few minutes’ drive away.
There are also several elementary schools, high schools, sports clubs, and healthcare facilities in the immediate area.
